Movie Review:Alone

Scary is sexy but sadly Ms Basu doesn’t live to up to her favourite phrase. No, I am not saying she doesn’t look hot in the film, she does, but I went in thinking she would scare the hell out of me. And that just didn’t happen. Read the full review of Alone below…
What’s it about

If you have seen the Thai horror flick Alone then you already know the story. But for all those who haven’t, here’s what Bhushan Patel’s latest directorial venture Alone is all about: Sanjana and Anjana (Bipasha Basu) are conjoined twins who are happy with their medical condition. In fact, they make a promise to each other that they would always stay together no matter what. However, things change when Kabir (Karan Singh Grover) enters their lives. While Kabir and Sanjana fall for each other, Anjana too likes Kabir. Because of this, the two sisters start to grow apart and ultimately decide to separate from each other through a surgery. However, only Sanjana makes it and her sister dies. Years later, when Sanjana comes back to her home along with hubby Kabir, spooky things happen and Sanjana slowly starts to feel her dead sister’s presence. Does Anjana end up killing Sanjana? Does Kabir loses the love of his life or has he already lost it and is unaware? Well, you need to watch the film to find out yourself.

What’s hot

Now this is quite hard to pen down because I totally love watching horror movies and very rarely does Bollywood come up with a masterpiece in this genre. So here we go – apart from music and the way Kerala has been captured, I hardly found anything worth applauding. Yes, there is Karan who looks good flaunting his chiseled body. As for Bipasha, well, we all know the B-town beauty is one of the prettiest looking lady in tinsel town so it goes without saying that she looks sexy in her latest horror flick Alone. Also, Karan’s chemistry with his onscreen ladylove is sizzling. Coming to the performances, the television heartthrob is decent throughout. In fact, in some places he outshines Bips. I say so because in quite a few scenes Ms Basu went overboard with all the rona-dhona. And it was indeed annoying. There were few scenes which gave me shivers but then there were few which were lifted from here and there.

What’s not

The story of Alone is very predictable. So much so that at least I figured out the big twist way before the climax. That certainly spoiled my mood. Yes, the music of the film is good but I am not sure if songs were needed in the first place. When you walk in to watch a horror movie, you want the actors to keep you on the edge of your seat and not bore you with their dance and romance, hai na? Another let down was Bipasha Basu’s performance. She is literally the face of horror in Bollywood but I think its time for her to take a break from this genre. Because when you keep doing films in the same genre over and over again, after a point, it seems forced.

Verdict: Go and watch Alone if you have nothing else to do this weekend. For those who love horror genre, please stay away from this one.

PS: If you are as lucky as me, then you may just get entertained by the crowd sitting on both your sides.
